THE STORY GOES LIKE THIS
for what seems like an eternity, the region of mystère has been plagued by misfortune, and this is no accident. shortly after the witch trials started, a vengeful sorceress cast a spell over the land, cursing it out of spite. at the snap of her bony fingers, a horrible disease swept through the land, taking the lives of half the population. it took mystère many years to rebuild, and while parts of the region have started to prosper again, new problems are arising.
corpses are being found in redwall, the most successful city in mystère. the attacks started with female prostitutes from the slums, but the bodies of males and children have been discovered recently as well. the victims are found with their throats slit and bizarre bodily mutilations, such as the removal of internal organs, which has led to proposals that their killer must possess surgical knowledge.
however, this anonymous killer is not the only one to blame. deaths are being reported in other parts of mystère. bodies have been found brutally torn and rendered, others drained of every last drop blood. strange sightings have been seen of pale, beautiful humans, and large, two-legged beasts, and rumors of the supernatural are spreading like wildfire.
unfortunately for the humans, these stories are more than just murders. a coven of vampires stumbled upon this dark land during their travels and have established their residence in an abandoned castle. their presence has driven the werewolves, native to the woodland, closer to the city, causing more uncontrolled deaths. while the citizens are running around in a panic, a war between the two supernatural species is being waged behind the scenes, each wanting the forests for their own.
desperate and unsure of what path to take, the government has turned to the wealthiest family in mystère for its aid, the alistair household. there have been tales that the family has supposed links with the supernatural, but the parliament do not believe such nonsense and are willing to trust in anything; even if anything is two children and their band of misfit servants.
FACES TO CLAIM
jack the ripper – played by: open
playby: hei from darker than black
the mysterious redwall killer. his first murder started as revenge against a whore who abused him, but it quickly became an addiction. he is the son of a doctor, and while suspicions hover around his father, the doctor's seemingly perfect son is the least likely suspect. when he is not wearing the mask of a killer, he appears rather normal, albeit a little quiet. in recent news, supernatural killings are being blamed on the ripper, and jack does not appreciate the sloppy work of werewolves being put under his well-earned title.
cecilia alistair – played by: open
playby: misa from death note
the much admired first daughter of the alistair family. she is strong-willed, and always seems to get her way by using pretty words. she has a lot of pride, coming from an upper class family, but her heart is gentle and she does not discriminate. she is a social butterfly with a chipper smile and loves extravagant events and beautiful things. despite her constant teasing of her brother, she cares for him deeply.
lucius alistair – played by: open
playby: alois from kuroshitsuji
the manipulative younger brother of cecilia, lucius lacks many of the social graces his sister possess, and is far more argumentative. often referred to as a 'brat' by those that meet him, he seems to like his own company more than anyone else's. he spends long periods of time alone in his room, away from the rest of the house's inhabitants.
dimitri monfort – played by: open
playby: kaname from vampire knight
he is currently the acting head of the vampiric coven. unlike many of his predecessors who believed remaining hidden and feeding off animals was the most effective way of survival, dimitri has a more militant and less humane approach to his coven's existence. he is ruthless, and he has actively promoted feeding off humans, as he believes they are a lesser race, a plague on the earth. both proud and strong, he is not someone to be crossed. he is also highly intelligent, and he uses this intellect to manipulate others into following him.
amelia ferrier – played by: open
playby: blue from wolf's rain
she is the first alpha female. she is young, but she has proven herself as a worthy leader countless times. unlike dimitri and the vampires, amelia takes no pleasure in having her pack feed off humans. unfortunately, but she has had little choice, as the vampires have expanded their hunting territory, taking much of the food her wolves had fed upon previously. currently, she is attempting to gather both the strength and resolve to lead an attack against the vampires, ending their existence in mystère. she is trustworthy leader, although she constantly fears making the wrong decisions.
luther dalkholm – played by: open
playby: sebastian from kuroshitsuji
he is the butler for the two alistair twins. he is perfect, in almost every way, able to keep the house running and order the other servants about with ease. he is sly, quite teasing, and somehow manages to remain on good terms with both alistair children. there is, however, something a little strange about him, and not just the deathly pallor of his skin, or the red tint to his eyes. unknown to both his current employers, he is actually a vampire; one who has served the alistair family for many, many generations.
malakai lennox – played by: mika
the richest noble in all the land. he sold his soul to a devil for fortune. at first, he only wanted to money to save his family from poverty, but he became obsessed with the coins and his greed quickly became a sickness. the lives of his kin were taken as payment, and malakai started a cult based on satanic worship soon after. he is the leader of a dangerous posse that practices witchcraft and magic blacker than you ever imagined. he hides his secret well, knowing that if anyone were to find out, he would be faced with death; burning at the stake.
silas aalseth – played by: alex
playby: the undertake from kuroshitsuji
he's rather eccentric and and his face is a bit scary to look at, but he means no harm. he works and resides at the graveyard just outside the town of houndsworth, and there's no doubt that the people find him odd. most avoid him, looking at the ground when he passes. there have even been rumors that he's the redwall murderer. in reality, the man is the farthest thing from a killer. underneath his scarred face and strange habits, he has a gentle heart. the townspeople misjudge him based on his appearance, and he has become a lonely outcast.
THE WOLF'S TERRITORY
the werewolves, led by the strong-willed amelia, used to reign supreme in the forest. the wolves didn't bother the humans, and only the unfortunate villager that got lost in the woods would fall victim to their teeth. sometimes, to keep the pack going, a mortal would be bit and turned into a wolf to join their numbers, but purposeful killings were rare. in recent months, however, the vampire coven has taken over a good portion of the wolves' hunting ground, forcing the canines closer to the cities and towns. the number of deaths has suddenly skyrocketed, and innocent people are being found torn to pieces in the woods. the forest is now forbidden to villagers, and anyone caught outside the city limits is to be punished severely.
THE ABANDONED CASTLE
an old, crumbling castle that can be found deep in the woods. citizens of mystère used to tour it, but after rumors of a haunting started going around, the visitations stopped, and the castle was forgotten. a vampire coven, led by the ambitious dimitri, eventually stumbled upon the old monument and made it their home. they live here in secret, feeding off the humans in the nearby towns like blackwood and houndsworth. the tales of a haunting weren't fabrications; the coven of vampires shares the castle with spirits and apparitions who haven't yet realized they're dead.
BRIARCLIFF ASYLUM
this is where they put people if they don't seem right in the head. in recent years, they have carelessly been sticking criminals in here as well. the houndsworth prison filled up fast, and they had to do something with the left-overs. briarcliff is run by the church, but there is nothing but corruption in the hallways. the living conditions are poor, and little care is given to the patients. there are also rumors that a crazy scientist has turned the basement into an experimentation laboratory. after all, who's going to care if a few crazies go missing?
TOWN OF HOUNDSWORTH
unlike the prosperous city of redwall, houndsworth has remained in ruin. as redwall was built and flourished, the prior capital fell farther and farther into darkness. it is a dismal and gloomy place to live, and despite the residents' efforts to rebuild, the population is still quite small. crime rates are high here, and even the off-the-map town of blackwood, known for its black magic and voodoo, seems more appealing. there are also stories of a ravenous demon dog that visits the town every month on the full moon, and to appease the beast, human sacrifices must be made.
CHOICE OF GROUPS
commoners – ordinary humans; they have no special abilities or duties. they do not have a lot of money and are the most common in houndsworth.
nobles – wealthy humans with a great deal of money. they have life fairly easy and can be found walking the cobblestone streets of redwall.
servants – below the rank of commoners, they often serve the wealthy noblemen, heeding their every request without question.
vampires – creatures of the night that feed off human blood to survive. their skin is unmistakably pale, and they possess an almost inhuman beauty. sunlight will turn the weaker vampires to ash if it happens to touch their porcelain skin. pureblood vampires, on the other hand, can travel in the daylight hours. some may suffer mild burns, but most are powerful enough to sustain themselves.
werewolves – you are either born a werewolf, or you are bitten. they appear human, and it is only on the night of a full moon that a werewolf will take its true form. some live in packs with other werewolves, while others are loners, ashamed of what they are. the only way to kill a werewolf is with a high dose of silver. a bullet to the heart is most effective.
ghosts – spirits who have been trapped in a state of limbo, unable to move on to the next realm. maybe they died before they were ready. maybe they were murdered or perished in a violent way. or, maybe, they don't even know they are dead. spirits are generally invisible to the living unless they choose to reveal themselves.
ghouls – evil spirits. they too are ghosts, but a much darker breed. they feed on negative energy in order to become more powerful. where disaster and heartache occur, they will likely be nearby. some devour human flesh to sustain a physical form.
witches – they have incredible supernatural powers. when they wish it, they can cast spells and curses with dark magic; although, not all use their powers for bad. they enjoy masquerading among the humans, and most are well-known tricksters and manipulators. never to trust a witch, because chances are she's lying.
hunters – unbeknownst to the residents of mystère, these heroes live among them. they are the humans that know the dark secret of the world, and have decided to try to do something about it. they must never breath a word of their job, and if an ordinary human discovers the truth, they are sworn to complete secrecy. if there is a fear that they will divulge what they have seen to the public, they are killed.
