THE STORY GOES LIKE THIS
decades ago, the right to sit at the throne of astale was contested by two brothers, aragon and casiel; both good men, both worthy of ruling over the lands. the elder brother, strong, ambitious, and resolute believed it was his birth right as the first born son. the younger, more sage and gentle man, believed his brother was too rash, and deeply wished to bring about a new peaceful era to the kingdom.
on his deathbed, their father chose the youngest to rule, much to the land's surprise, and casiel took the position with great honor. aragon was infuriated and spent the years bitterly brooding. he schemed for his chance to take the throne, while his younger sibling married and had a son, who would be one day be heir to the kingdom.
this only angered aragon further, and with his dreams of being king hastily slipping, he finally decided to act, demanding that his brother step down. when his demands were not met, aragon led a siege against his own kin in an attempt to overthrow him by force. his rebellion was in vain, and he and his followers were sentenced to death. casiel banished him to the outlands, as he could not bring himself to execute his own brother. this was kept a secret, and aragon was presumed dead by the kingdom. when he left, he smuggled the king's child with him in a final act of revenge.
the queen was hysterical with grief, but with the pressure of raising a heir for the throne, the royal family had another child, this time a daughter; years passed, and she grew into a beautiful young woman. while she was not perfectly fit to rule the kingdom, head stuck in the clouds, she aided her father in making peace with the even tribes and bringing better living and working conditions to the villages within the kingdom. all seemed well, and Aragon was forgotten.
however, on princess charlotte's eighteenth birthday, both the king and queen of astale were mysteriously assassinated, abruptly leaving her in charge of a terrified kingdom. she now does her best to rule amidst the chaos their deaths caused.
peace in the land of astale has been disturbed, and a rumor has arisen; aragon's henchmen were behind the assassination, and he has returned from exile, seeking the throne he still believes to be his.
