Sometimes Madoka really really wanted to go against her usual peaceful philosophy and hurt someone. That someone, of course, being the delightfully cheerful man that was humming some old song not too far away from where she was standing. Everyone not familiar with this man would wonder why she held such violent thoughts towards him, after all, he seemed like such a nice man right now, just humming and smiling and minding his own business… little did those people know about his dark and evil side he kept hidden beyond those innocent smiles of his. After sending a death glare at her boss (because who else could she have hated on this early on in the morning) over her shoulder, the young woman continued her sweeping of the entrance floor to the inn with an irritated expression that was sure to send all the customers running for the hills, should they choose to ignore the “closed” sign that hung next to the door.
Normally she didn’t mind this, it was her job after all, and as much as she hated her boss with the passion of about 20 billion suns, she didn’t really hate the job that much. And besides, the jerk did technically keep his end of the bargain… kind of. He watched her mom during the day to make sure she didn’t hurt herself somehow, but Madoka highly doubted he went beyond the absolute necessities. There was no way he took the old lady outside for some fresh air maybe once or twice a day, and if not for her colleagues occasionally asking her if she needed anything, she fully suspected her boss to just hand her a glass of water and tell her to cherish it because it was the only thing he was going to get her all day. Gods, how she disliked this man… to the point where she likely painted a much more villainous person in her head than he actually was. Well, even if that was true, he’d given her every reason to hate him by taking advantage of her situation, knowing full well she really had nowhere else to turn.
As soon as the man wandered further into the building, Madoka stopped sweeping and just relaxed against the wall for a moment, taking a deep breath and lightly tapping the back of her head against the hard surface. If she just knocked into it hard enough, she might pass out and be excused from being here today, because honestly, she wasn’t even supposed to be here today in the first place. Not only did she have doctor’s orders to take it easy because of her arm, this was supposed to be her day off as well. Normally her boss didn’t bother her during this day, but apparently some big shot businessman would be travelling through here and so everything had to be spick and span, and that meant everyone – even the ones who weren’t supposed to be here – had to get out of bed early and help clean the place up for his arrival.
Needless to say, Madoka just wasn’t in the mood to be a servant today. No, you couldn’t even call her a servant right now, more like a slave because not only was she working on a day off, she also had to look out for her mom herself too because she was here anyway. The way he’d presented it to her, he actually made it sound like he was doing her a favor by dragging her and her mother in here at the crack of dawn to come clean his shitty inn. Really, even Aryan would grow to hate this man eventually, and Aryan was a much better person than she was.
As soon as she thought about the white-haired man she’d met not too long ago, her scowl was replaced with a pleasant little smirk. Even though she’d completely messed up her potato dinner the other day by relaxing and chit-chatting rather than watching the food, she just couldn’t be too upset about it. Maybe because the rest of the day had been amazing enough to make up for the food disaster. They’d gotten to know each other a little better, he’d bought her this amazing necklace, and they even confirmed their friendship.
Madoka sighed and just put the broom against the wall next to her rather than holding onto it in case her boss came walking in. Aryan was really an amazing person… always so nice and polite, and he was certainly not hard to look at either. She bit her lip slightly as she looked out the door and considered just sneaking off and looking around to see if she could find him. It was a pretty thrilling thought, just walking off like a rebellious teen, risking detection by her boss to go meet a guy, and just thinking about it made her feel giddy.
A soft giggle escaped her lips, “Behave Madoka,” she thought to herself as she peeked into the inn to see if her boss was standing in her line of sight. As far as she could tell, the coast was clear… should she do it? ”Psst, Yuka!” she whispered loudly enough to catch her friend’s attention. If anyone would cover for her for a few hours, it was Yuka. Akemi would just demand to know where she would be going, and seeing as she intended to go see Aryan, that conversation was bound to get awkward considering the older girl’s attitude towards him. Yuka, on the other hand, would fully support her decision. “I need to leave for a bit, can you watch my mom for a few hours? I’ll make it up to you, promise,” she whispered when her friend had moved close enough to hear.
Yuka just looked around suspiciously for any sign of either a nosy Akemi or their employer before speaking up quietly, “Let me borrow that hairpin Akemi got you last year and you’ve got a deal,” the younger girl mumbled innocently as she continued to sweep the floor, only pretending to be working hard. ”Alright deal,” she answered quickly, not even bothering to ask why her younger friend wanted to borrow it in the first place. It was early… she really couldn’t be bothered with these minor details right now. After shaking Yuka’s hand, Madoka quietly slipped out the door and casually walked away from the inn. Alright… now that that was settled, she could try to find Aryan, maybe she could apologize for messing up his dinner and find some way to make up for it. Because she hadn’t forgotten that that dinner was supposed to be a gift to show her gratitude for what he’d done for her. She was going to thank him somehow, she just didn’t know how yet. For some reason, all of her gifts ended up being failures… first the wind-chimes, then dinner. Someone up there didn’t want her to be a nice person, she just knew it.
Oh well, that someone up there apparently didn’t know how stubborn she was. With a smirk of satisfaction plastered on her face, Madoka prepared for her search. This would’ve been so much easier if she’d just gotten his address from him the other day… luckily it was still early, so she had plenty of time.
