For the first time in quite a while, Madoka actually felt like things were going well in her life. She still had to work and take care of her mother, but for some reason, it didn’t feel like as much of a burden as it used to. After her incident in the caves, it seemed almost as though the people in her life were more willing to help her out every once in a while. The doctor and his family especially helped out by taking her mother off her hands for a few hours every so often, and Akemi seemed to like hanging out with the old woman as well… probably so she could teach the older lady more of her evil ways. Rather than influencing a child to become more like her, Akemi had picked a middle aged woman. Why did that not surprise her as much as it should? Oh well, Madoka wasn’t too worried. Her mother could take care of herself, and she didn’t think Akemi had enough influence to turn her into a real bitch. Besides, not having to look after her mother every single day meant she had more time to herself lately.[/size]
Today, the young woman had decided to go for a walk along the cliffs. The weather was nice, and the view up here was breathtaking. The doctor had told her to take it easy so her hand could recover properly from the demon’s attack, and what better way was there to relax than come here and watch the ocean for a little while? In a way, being here also meant she could confront the fears she’d had about this area for a while now. Images of the horrific demon she’d encountered in the caves haunted her whenever she came near the Oceanside, despite the fact that this had been the first time she’d encountered anything dangerous in her life, it had left a big enough impression on her that all the peaceful memories of playing near the water as a child seemed to be overshadowed by that one event.
She wasn’t quite ready to go for a walk along the shore, let alone wander by the caves, but this was already a nice first step. Up here, she had a good view of the beach down below, good enough that she could see most of the shore from this spot. She was kind of dealing with her fear without actually going down to the scene itself… that was good enough for now right?
With a quiet sigh, Madoka knelt down into the soft grass and gazed out towards the horizon. She’d always loved coming here, right now she felt a little uneasy being so close to the caves, but she’d get over it eventually. She just needed to take baby steps for while. Maybe a few weeks from now, she could ask Aryan to come along with her when she actually confronted her anxiety for real by approaching the caves. She’d feel a lot safer knowing he was there with her, and she couldn’t imagine him telling her no. He’d been there beside her that day after all, he knew exactly what had happened to bring about this fear. Surely he wouldn’t make her go alone.
Laying down on her back, Madoka slowly closed her eyes and listened to the sound of the waves crashing against the shoreline. After staying in that position for a while, she slowly felt her body relax. This was excellent practice for when she went down there for real. A smile crossed her features as she continued to enjoy the peace and quiet of this particular spot. She was going to be alright. It might take her a while, but she had high hopes for the future.
