Sometimes, Asami really considered going back home to her clan. It had been nearly four years now since she’d left, and she hadn’t really made any progress in finding the ones responsible for the attack on her village at all. She found a few bandits here and there, but after questioning them, it usually turned out to be the wrong crowd; they were bandits alright, but not the ones who had been involved with the attack. On the rare occasion that she did stumble upon a lead, the trail often got cold after a few days of travelling. The country was a lot bigger than she’d always thought it would be, and her ‘amazing ninja tracking skills’ weren’t as impressive as she’d believed prior to leaving the village either.
The young ninja sighed dramatically as she dragged herself through the forest, muttering curses under her breath and occasionally kicking the ground for no particular reason. Honestly, she was just annoyed. Sightseeing and meeting new people was pretty amazing, but ultimately… she had left with a certain purpose in mind, and she was still nowhere closer to fulfilling that purpose now than when she was when she’d left the clan all those years ago. Who wouldn’t get a little moody about something like that?
Another sigh escaped her lungs, this time followed by a long whine. “Come oooon,” she complained loudly to herself, but then just went back to pouting. This really wasn’t how she’d envisioned her grand quest to turn out. Why had her clan even allowed her to go if they knew she was going to fail anyway? She was about to curse them for being jerks when something hit her… maybe… maybe they’d allowed her to go because they genuinely believed in her! Yes, Asami was great at lying to herself, and as she told herself that they were all counting on her to get this done, a slight smile replaced her pout. Oh yeah, they were probably rooting for her right now! Well, she wasn’t going to let them down! Even if it took her another four years, she was going to get this done somehow, no matter how much ground she had to cover and how many people she had to interrogate.
With the minor crisis averted for the time being, Asami went back to her usual energetic walk, her head held high and her shoulders pushed back proudly. “You’ve got this!” she told herself joyfully as she clapped her hands together, almost as though she were high-fiving herself. Asami was definitely her own number one fan, sure, that might sound a little sad, but if you didn’t adore yourself, how could you expect others to like you? People would be a lot happier if they adopted that view as well. That was her theory anyway, and she was sticking by it.
After wandering around for a few minutes, just kind of cheering herself on and getting her spirits up again, Asami stopped abruptly when she caught something in the distance. Something very pleasant looking. “Oooh, what have we here…” she mumbled before taking a step closer, grin expanding with each step she took. It looked like a small clearing, and inside that clearing were several pools of shallow water. A pleasant temperature emerged from the water. Maybe this would be a good place to set up camp for the day.
Dumping her things next to the hot spring, Asami wasted no time in shamelessly taking off her clothes and tossing them carelessly onto a pile next to her belongings. She kept her undergarments on of course, since you never knew what kind of lecherous perv might be hiding in the bushes just waiting to creep up on whoever decided to get into the spring. It wasn’t that she couldn’t just beat them up, but hey, even Asami had some modesty sometimes. Before getting in, she glanced over towards her belongings for a moment. Would it be wiser to go hunt for food first? Maybe, but her feet were sore… she wasn’t going to sit here for long anyway, just long enough to let her tense muscles get some rest. Nope, she would definitely not linger here any longer than she had to. And so, she slowly lowered herself into the warm water and relaxed against one of the flattened rocks near the side, closing her eyes for just a second as she enjoyed the warmth. She just needed five minutes, and then she’d get out for sure.---
