THE STORY GOES LIKE THIS
after seven long years of war, japan has finally been united under one emperor. the assassination of the tyrannical arata yamazaki, the nation's previous ruler, left the country in ruins for nearly a decade. the cities were ravaged by famine and drought, and many lives were lost.
it was only when prince haru stepped up to take the throne that things began to look up. he was young when he took the emperor's place, younger than most would be, but even at that age, he had a good head on his shoulders. with the help of his advisers, he guided the empire back from the darkness, slowly forging better living conditions, and allowing the people of japan to finally feel safe. he eventually came up with a peace treaty that put an end to the lingering battles.
however, it is only a matter of time before this utopian era comes to an end. the blood spilled during the war has awakened a great evil that had lain dormant for centuries; the demon lord, orochi. unknown to the emperor, orochi has watched his progress and the expansion of his kingdom from the moment it was united, and now desires the emperor's throne for himself, believing that only he is mighty enough to rule japan. tired of living in the rotting outlands, he wishes to turn the land in a sanctuary for his own kind and banish the humans.
orochi has not struck yet, biding his time, plotting and scheming against the newly united empire. he hides himself in the shadows of the outlands, slowly summoning a horde of demons to complete his army. throughout the land, evil has began to awaken, and it has not gone unnoticed. the wise village priestess has foreseen a dark prophecy of the kingdom's collapse, and the demon slayers' suspicions are quickly rising as more demons make themselves known, raiding the villages, slaughtering innocent people.
it won't be long now until orochi decides to lead his army against the emperor's, and when that day comes, japan will be at war once again.
FACES TO CLAIM
haru yamazaki – played by: mika
playby: ryuuki shi from saiunkoku monogatari
the emperor of japan. unlike his tyrannical father, he has good intentions and a pure heart, wishing only the best for his country. he united the nation, creating harmony out of chaos, and has saved japan from darkness. sometimes his carefree and sometimes silly personality causes anxiety among the people, as they worry that their ruler is still a child, but despite what the citizens think, the king is very wise. he may be eccentric and laugh at the wrong times, but he has a better understanding of life than most people will achieve in a lifetime.
sho matsuo– played by: open
playby: ran shuuei from saiunkoku monogatari
the emperor's adviser, and when it permits, babysitter. he aids haru in all the big decisions, keeping a watchful eye on the childish man. he can be hot-headed at times, quite the smart-ass, and most of the palace residents have learned not to voice their disagreement against him. sho takes his job seriously, often coming off as stoic, and it is said that the only one who can crack a smile from him is the emperor himself. you see, while sho could care less about most people, he has a soft spot for the emperor; perhaps a little softer than he should.
shizuka inoue – played by: open
playby: misaki mei from another
the village priestess. she may be young, but don't let her age fool you; she is wise beyond her years. villagers often come to her for advice, her healing remedies, or to hear her ominous prophecies. she is a quiet, soft-spoken girl, and while she may not say much, when she does speak, her words are full of meaning. she wears a patch over her left eye because she lost it in a demon-wolf raid when she was only a small child, which left her orphaned.
taka yoshiro – played by: open
playby: date masamune from sengoku basara
a legendary samurai who has yet to lose a battle. his name is familiar throughout the land, and there are even rumors claiming he stood against a powerful demon with a single blade and won. his father was a great samurai who died in the war, and until that day, father and son fought side by side. the life of a samurai is all taka has ever known. he has a lot of pride, and can be a bit cocky at times (a show-off, if you will), but he never lets that cloud his judgment in a fight. he relies on his wit rather than sheer strength to win his battles.
kaede nakamura – played by: ume
playby: sango from inuyasha
the head demon slayer's daughter. while some do not see the perilous duty of fighting demons to be a job fit for women, kaede is as good as they get. she is a strong-willed girl with incredible endurance, and she sees fear as an obstacle to conquer rather than a roadblock. she is rebellious by nature, and while her father often tries to shelter her, she doesn't heed a word he says. she's stubborn, and she does what she wants. telling her no will only provoke her to do the opposite.
orochi – played by: open
playby: orochimaru from naruto
orochi is an evil demon lord who often takes the form of a monstrous snake. he hides in the outlands, where many powerful demons have been banished, but wants nothing more than to escape. he is extremely power-hungry and has had his eyes set on the throne of the empire for a long time, scheming on how to take it for his own. now that a more peaceful – and in orochi's belief, weaker – ruler has been appointed, he feels he has been given a window of opportunity.

DEMON SLAYER'S VILLAGE
a clan of demon slayers populate this village. from early childhood, they are trained to wield weapons and fight demons. while it was originally considered the duty of the village's men, women have started picking up weapons now as well, due to the recent influx of demons. this, however, is looked down by many people, as the job of slaying demons is a treacherous one and traditionally bound to men.
VILLAGE IN THE MOUNTAINS
also known as kiri no mura, this village is nestled in the misty slopes of the mountains. after suffering fatal raids by bandits, the people built sturdy walls around the valley, both to keep trespassers out and keep their own inside. their existence is thought to be a myth, as no one who has seen the village has ever come back to tell about it. the villagers are not hostile, quite the opposite, but to protect their home, they do not let outsiders leave once they have entered.
