THE STORY GOES LIKE THIS
the world has been at war for nearly a decade. what started out as a dispute over resources between two nations quickly turned into an all consuming battle. armies spread, and different allegiances were formed, resulting in an seemingly endless conflict in which neither side gained any ground. civilians have lived in constant fear, hoping to not be caught in the fray, although very few have been lucky enough to remain untouched by the untold destruction.
no matter how hard each army tried, neither could gain the upper hand. that was until recently, when a doctor, who believed he was working on the 'key to life', a cure to bring those killed in the war back from the dead, fully animated with all their memories and emotions intact, injected a southern faction soldier with the so called remedy. could it have been possible, things only got worse.
the cure turned out to be not a cure, but a virus, and it quickly spread throughout the land. it did partly what the doctor had hoped, reanimate the dead, although they lacked the emotions and memories they had in their previous lives. rather, they became vengeful corpses, wandering with one goal; to end their hunger by feeding on human flesh.
the war still rages today, and now soldiers must fight their opposing faction and the undead. many civilians have banded together, taking to the deserted streets in an attempt to claim back their cities from the dead. in the chaos, the government is desperately trying to find a cure. they claim to be taking volunteers as test subjects, but in reality they are dragging citizens off the streets and using them as lab rats. no one is safe anymore; soldier nor citizen.
FACES TO CLAIM
commander gabriel stratos – played by: open
playby: ayanami from ghost 07
commander gabriel stratos is a ruthless and imposing man, cold of heart, and commander of the southern faction's armies. every general on every front reports to him. he does not tolerate failure, and he will go to extreme lengths to prove victorious over the northern faction. the boundaries between good and evil are blurred, and he is willing to commit heinous war crimes should it lead to his success. he has turned what started as a war over resources into a battle for power. it was on his orders that the virus was released, despite doctor bennett's protests that the cure was not yet finished.
doctor david bennett – played by: open
playby: irie kyosuke from higurashi
doctor david bennett is a genius level scientist, and has spent much of his life working with both human medical care and human genetics. when the war broke out, he was hired by the southern faction to run their medical facilities, and in return, he would receive unlimited funding for his personal research; something named 'the key to life.' after bringing a number of his medical staff with him to the southern faction's encampments and setting up a successful hospital, he began to work once again with human DNA. he hoped to restore life to the dead, but before it was fully ready for human testing, he was forced into using it by commander stratos. it had disastrous effects, and while it did animate the dead, it animated them as flesh eating monsters, seemingly unable to feel pain. david carries that weight on his shoulders, blaming himself, and has since devoted himself to finding a cure for the virus he created.
head researcher – played by mika
head researcher, delilah rose. she works in alliance with david bennett, sharing the collaborative information of the research with him. she is a stubborn woman, determination undying, and she goes above and beyond on her research, seeking a cure just as desperately as the doctor himself. unlike most of the research team and soldiers, delilah does not blame the distressed scientist for the outbreak of the virus, and along with scientific data, she also provides the him with a shoulder to lean on after a long day in the lab.
commander jacob fletcher – played by: open
playby: sousuke sagara from full metal panic
jacob fletcher is the commander of the northern faction armies, and unlike gabriel stratos, he is a lot more humane. while he may appear gruff and unapproachable, those that get close to him find him kind at heart. he often puts himself out for his soldiers, and being an ex-grunt himself, he knows how hard it can be to fight on the front lines. he still blames the southern faction for the war's beginning, and he holds a larger grudge against stratos after the release of the virus. he hopes desperately that the war will end soon, as he struggles to see the death of any more of his comrades.
leader of the red bandits – played by: connor
playby: gareki from karneval
in the beginning, he was just like everyone else. he was just an ordinary guy. in the new world, however, the broken one, he actually has a name, a face. he is no longer a nobody. after stumbling upon a small group of survivors in the subways, he led them to safety, and in doing so gained loyal followers. they started off as nothing more than a group of men trying to survive, but slowly turned into monsters, killing off other survivors for supplies. that's what kind of world it is now, after all, survival of the fittest. there are some men in the group that think their leader isn't worthy of the position - that he is too soft, that his heart is too big - but he stands his ground. now that he has gotten a taste of power, he doesn't want to give it up.
test subject #213 – played by: open
playby: hisashi igo from high school of the dead
up until test subject number 213, all the others were an absolute failure. their bodies weren't strong enough to combat the virus for long and they died off quickly, giving the scientists little time to study them. he, however, is special. due to a mutation in his genetics, he seems to be partially immune to the virus. it doesn't completely shut off control in his brain, and because of this, he is an important pawn in finding the cure. he was once a normal boy, just another civilian struggling to survive, until he was dragged off of the streets and turned into a lab rat. he wants to run away, but he knows if he does he will die from the fever. his body has only held out this long after the initial injection of the virus because the doctors have him on stabilizers.
THE NORTHERN BASE
the army of the northern faction reside here. mountains surround the territory, as well as some forestry, making it difficult for outside residents to find the entrance. the base itself is located at the foot of a steep cliff, and it sustains the entire body of soldiers that ally with the north. it is more of a humble establishment, and only the bare minimum is needed to survive under the current commander.
THE SOUTHERN BASE
these are the southern faction's quarters. the corridors are lined with secret rooms and laboratories, and there are many chambers, most of which are designed to hold prisoners for laboratory testing purposes. equipped with advanced technology and under gabriel stratos' control, there are are few rules the ruthless men follow.
THE BATTLEFIELD
a war-zone used by both the northern and southern factions to engage in various battles. the battlefield is large and spans for miles, having to support the makeshift camps of both sides. there are long trenches built specifically to heighten protection of soldiers. the conditions aren't ideal, of course, and the infected roam the field, drawn in by the bodies of fallen troops. there is an untouched portion of the zone, and today it is known as area 5. its purpose is to promote peace and neutrality, and it would only be put to use if the war was ended.
SAFE ZONE
a place specifically made for refugees and survivors of the city's collapse. the homeless have gathered here from all around, desperately trying to preserve the last remnants of civilization. the safe zone offers food, shelter, and other goods to those that have left everything else behind in all the chaos. it is a community made up of small houses, tents, and a few supply centers where food and water are rationed daily.
CHOICE OF GROUPS
refugees – citizens of the city before everything collapsed. most of them are homeless refugees now.
scavengers – hostile humans that can usually be found scrounging around the remains of the city or the wastelands. they have lost the last shreds of their humanity and often take risky jobs from soldiers that are repaid with supplies.
soldiers – participants in the ongoing war, belonging to the northern and southern factions. some of the northern soldiers are also used as additional security in the refugee camp.
spies – of course, with all those battle strategies being formed inside the bases, there will be people who are assigned to retrieve this information for the benefit of their side. spies are often caught and dealt with accordingly, so it is a very risky line of work.
nurses – certified or not, they provide medical care where they are able to. most are stationed in the refugee camp and the army bases.
prisoners – war prisoners of the southern faction, kept in underground chambers to be test subjects.
bandits– the gang of rebels that now pose a threat to what little peace that remains in the refugee camp, and any other place that carries items of significant value. most of these men and women have transformed into violent people, taking what they need to survive from the innocent.
zombie hunters – they roam the streets with vengeful intent, weapons in hand. their sole purpose is to destroy the zombies and protect the remaining civilians and refugees, in a vain hope of saving civilization.
researchers – people who have dedicated their life to research. they work in alliance with the scientists, sharing the information they dig up.
scientists – they work in labs, performing experiments on test subjects. they have dedicated their lives to finding a cure for the horrible plague that is destroying the world.
test subjects – majority are civilians that have been snatched off the streets against their will, or soldiers who were wounded beyond repair in the war. a rare few are volunteers who donated their body to the study.
